The second offering in The Macallan’s limited annual series, The Harmony, is called Intense Arabica. The collection is inspired by nature. In order to inform his creation, Steven Bremner, the maker of Macallan’s Whisky, held a masterclass with internationally recognized coffee experts. He ultimately decided to use Ethiopian Arabica beans. Given that Ethiopia is the home of coffee, it makes sense that The Macallan’s inaugural coffee-inspired whisky would feature this bean. The valuable liquid is housed in an environmentally friendly recyclable box that was created from coffee bean husks that would have otherwise been thrown away. The 44% abv dram was matured in casks seasoned with sherry to accentuate the robust flavor of coffee.

Expect aromas of decadent tiramisu, gingerbread, almonds, sweet oak and creamy vanilla. The palate leads to notes of rich espresso, dark cocao and raisins with hints of blackberry, brazil nuts and vanilla. The finish is that of a dark roast coffee, long, balanced and sweet.
