It was not until the 1980s downturn in the market that the distillery decided to focus on its single malt brand. Fortuitously, this coincided with the crest of a wave of enthusiasm for the high quality releases that the distillery had licensed to Campbell, Hope & King and Gordon & MacPhail in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Macallan Concept series includes Concept No. 1, Concept No. 2, and Concept No. 3. Each release in this series celebrates creativity, innovation, and artistry in whisky-making.. However, it wasn’t until the 1980s market downturn that the distillery shifted its focus to its single malt brand. This decision was timely, as it aligned with a rising wave of enthusiasm for the high quality releases that Macallan had licensed to Campbell, Hope & King and Gordon & MacPhail in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, these releases remain among the most collectible on the market.

Although global single malt sales volume is still led by its Speyside neighbors Glenfiddich and Glenlivet, Macallan stands as the most sought after. In fact, demand has grown so significantly that Macallan opened a brand new distillery in 2018. This architectural masterpiece, nestled within the Easter Elchies estate, features a stunning subterranean design with 36 copper pot stills.

Concept Number 1

Concept No. 1 is the first in the series, inspired by surreal art. It blends traditional whisky-making with an imaginative twist. The whisky matures in sherry-seasoned oak and then in ex-bourbon casks, creating a unique flavor profile. Expect notes of citrus, toffee, and subtle spices.

Macallan Concept No. 2

Concept No. 2 combines whisky and music, creating a unique experience. In fact, this release explores the harmony of flavors, much like blending musical notes. Aged in sherry-seasoned oak, American oak, and ex-bourbon casks, it achieves a balanced blend of chocolate, dried fruit, and sweet spice notes. As a result, it finishes warm and smooth.

Macallan Concept No. 3

Concept No. 3 completes the collection by emphasizing creativity through collaboration. Specifically, designer David Carson developed this edition, showcasing bold and graphic design elements. Furthermore, it is aged in both sherry-seasoned and bourbon casks, delivering a rich flavor profile of vanilla, ginger, and toasted oak, with a hint of citrus. As a result, collectors and travelers can find this bottle at Global Travel Retail outlets and The Macallan Airport Boutiques.
