Tales of New York
Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan and head chef Joan Roca of the Michelin-starred El Cellar de Can Roca traveled to New York for the second release in Macallan’s Distil Your World Series.
So how do you distill a whisky that embodies the spirit of the never-sleeping city? They draw inspiration from the city’s diverse population and associated cultures in addition to its imposing architecture. What is a whisky meant to honor New York without the flavors of crisp, fresh apples? The buildings contribute a sense of optimism, while the people of New York add a little spiciness. The hue of the whiskey, which has an amber tint, was inspired by the sunrise in New York.
The layers and inventiveness of the package, which features a 3D aerial depiction of New York and uses blue details on the bottle to symbolize the water enveloping the city and the skyscrapers above, are further nods to the metropolis.
With just six American and European oak barrels used to produce a thousand bottles, Polly and Joan have undoubtedly succeeded in capturing the vivacity of New York.
